We value your privacy. This policy explains how Innately Science collects, uses and protects personal information, and what rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
Innately Science is a science education organisation based in the United Arab Emirates. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Innately Science, together with the contractors and colleagues who work with us.
We are the data controller for the personal information described below. Because we work with contributors, participants and readers around the world, we apply the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 and its Executive Regulations) and, where it applies to people in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation.
This policy covers information collected through http://www.innatelyscience.com and through our workshops, programmes and correspondence. Please read it carefully, and contact us with any questions at hello@innatelyscience.com.
2. Information you give us
When you contact us or register interest
Our forms ask for your name and email address, and sometimes where you are based and what you are hoping for. We use this only to reply to you and, where relevant, to let you know when a programme or experience opens. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
When you join the Innately Science community
If you tick the box asking for updates, we add your name and email address to our mailing list and send occasional news about workshops, field experiences, programmes and what we are building. The lawful basis is your consent. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time without giving a reason.
When you take part in a workshop or programme
We collect the information needed to run the session and to stay in touch with you about it. Where a programme is arranged through a school or organisation, that organisation handles consent and we hold only what it is necessary for us to hold.
When you write for us
If you contribute writing, we hold your name, biography, contact details and the work itself, so that it can be published and credited to you. The lawful basis is the agreement between us.
If you make a payment
We do not take payments through this website. Where you pay us for a workshop, programme or product through another route, payment details are handled by that payment provider and we do not store card numbers ourselves.
We do not ask for special category information such as health data, and you should not send it to us unless we have asked for it for a specific reason.
3. Information collected automatically
Site analytics
This site runs on WordPress.com, which uses Jetpack Stats. It records page views, which pages are read, the site or search engine you arrived from, your approximate location by country, and your browser and device type. It uses a tracking pixel and cookies to do this, and it does not identify you by name. Jetpack Stats is provided by Automattic Inc.
Essential cookies
WordPress sets cookies needed to run the site, including for anyone logging in to the dashboard. These are necessary for the site to work.
Embedded content
Pages that embed material from another service, such as a podcast player, may set that service’s own cookies and collect information about your visit, in the same way as if you had visited that service directly. We do not control what they collect.
Server logs
Our host records standard technical information such as IP addresses and request times, for security and to keep the site running.
Form responses
When you submit a form, the response is emailed to us and also stored within the website, so that nothing is lost if an email fails to arrive.
4. Who else handles your information
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We use the following services, which process personal information on our behalf:

We may also disclose personal information to trusted third parties who help us operate the website or run our programmes, and where we are required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
International transfers
These providers are based outside the United Arab Emirates, principally in the United States and Europe, so your information is transferred internationally. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards required under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law and, where relevant, under UK and EU data protection law: either a transfer to a country recognised as providing adequate protection, or a contract with the provider containing standard data protection clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguards that apply.
5. How long we keep things
- Enquiries and registrations of interest: up to two years from your last contact with us.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, or until three years of no engagement, whichever comes first.
- Workshop and programme records: up to two years after the programme ends.
- Contributor records and published work: for as long as the work remains published, as part of the public record of the archive.
- Analytics: as retained by Automattic under their own policy.
6. Published work and the newspaper archive
The Stories archive republishes articles from the Innately Science newspaper, with each piece credited to the person who wrote it, alongside the biography they provided. If you contributed and would like your work, your name or your biography removed or amended, email us and we will do it. You do not need to give a reason.
7. Your rights
Under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, and under UK and EU data protection law where it applies to you, you have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy
- have inaccurate information corrected
- ask us to delete your information
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- ask for your information in a portable format
- opt out of promotional emails, using the unsubscribe link in any message

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to a regulator: in the United Arab Emirates this is the UAE Data Office; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk; and in the European Economic Area, the supervisory authority in your own country.
8. Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 through it. Where we run programmes involving young people, consent is arranged through the school or organisation, and those arrangements sit alongside this policy rather than within it.
9. Keeping information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including limiting who can see it and using reputable providers. No system is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us over the internet.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always published on our website with the date it took effect. Where a change is significant and we hold your contact details, we will tell you directly.
